Need something to do so you can take a mental break from the menial and frustrating nature of daily life? Videos from the show 7/31 at Saint Vitus featuring Thou, Fórn, and False are now on youtube:
So many shows this summer! Lots of folks are hitting the road. False is jamming out for 30+ shows in a month, encircling the entire US. Thou will join them for a portion of those dates. Barghest are leaving the swamp to head North for a bit, all the way to Canada, and also have a new song up on their Bandcamp page. And Northless will join up with Primitive Man to bring sonic destruction to much of the West Coast.

Alright, everyone. Now that the False and Pale Chalice records are wrapping up at the plant, it’s time to let you know what’s coming for the end of the year here at Gilead Media HQ. Most of these have been in the works for a while now, so I’m quite pleased to formally announce them!
Dead to a Dying World – Litany CD/2LP
Coming this August is the new full-length from genre-crossing Texas septet Dead to a Dying World entitled Litany. Since their last release in 2011, DtaDW have been tirelessly crafting an incredibly ambitious album that traverses many musical realms and showcases the band’s tremendous creative spirit. Litany manages to strike a delicate balance. It is as cathartic and beautiful as it is oppressively destructive.
It’s safe to say this will be a release unlike anything Gilead Media has been a part of, and I can’t wait to share it with you.
Litany was produced by Billy Anderson, and features guest performances from members of Pallbearer, Sabbath Assembly, and Pinkish Black. The 2LP will be a joint release alongside Tofu Carnage Records in the US and Alerta Antifascista Records in Europe, while the CD will be handled solely by Gilead Media. More details forthcoming. Pre-orders will begin mid to late June, with an expected release date in August.
Fórn / Yautja – Split 7″
I am definitely at my max capacity for new releases this year, but when the opportunity was presented to work on this incredible little record, there was no way I could turn it down. And therefore, coming later in 2015, we will have the new split 7” between Fórn & Yautja.
Many of your are already familiar with the caustic sludge / doom crafted by Fórn, and the new song they contribute to this split will clearly prove that their debut album, The Departure of Consciousness, was just the beginning. This serves as an exciting glimpse into the future material from Fórn.
Yautja are a new addition to the Gilead Media family, although they share a drummer with Alraune, so they’re not complete strangers. If you haven’t checked out their debut LP, Songs of Descent, released by Forcefield Records in 2014, you are doing yourself a great disservice. Yautja have made a huge mark on the heavy music world with their seamless, brilliant blend of intricate metal, grind, and riff-heavy noise-rock. It’s truly something to behold.
Artwork will be handled by a recent favorite artist of mine, Brandon Geurts. Look for the release around October.
Kowloon Walled City – TBA full-length LP
KOWLOON WALLED CITY Joins Neurot Recordings & Gilead Media for the Release of their Third Studio Album. Here is the official press release from Neurot Recordings:
Neurot Recordings is very pleased to welcome San Francisco-based sludge/noise rock unit KOWLOON WALLED CITY to their family for the CD release of the band’s as-yet-untitled third full-length, expected this fall, with Gilead Media handling the release on vinyl.
Comments Neurot’s Steve Von Till, “KOWLOON WALLED CITY is a hardworking, no-nonsense group of people, who deliver no-nonsense, in-your-face aggressive music. We couldn’t be happier.”
Adds the band, “It goes without saying but we’re all honored and excited about this. Literally every interaction we’ve had with the Neurosis camp has been great – they are super solid people who 100% get it. The same goes for Gilead Media. All right, back to work.”
Named after a now-demolished Hong Kong region notorious for its brothels, opium dens and casinos, KOWLOON WALLED CITY was formed in 2007 and have since released an EP, two full-lengths and a number of splits. Their most recent long player – 2013’s Container Ships, released via Brutal Panda Records – reaped the praise of fans and critics both stateside and abroad with Lambgoat dubbing it “their most impressive release to date” and the The Sludgelord commending the band’s “hard-hitting brilliance,” placing it among the year’s best offerings. As AllMusic says, “KOWLOON WALLED CITY take the sound pioneered by bands like the Jesus Lizard and Unsane and push it into new dimensions of heaviness.”
Further KOWLOON WALLED CITY news will be announced in the weeks to come. In the meantime, sample the band’s previous releases at their official Bandcamp page at THIS LOCATION.
Lake of Violet – The Startling Testimony of Plumb Lines LP
Although Chicago-based Lake of Violet is a new project, those that comprise the group are well known to many into heavy & experimental music. Founded by André Foisy (guitar, from Locrian, Kwaidan) and Anthony Michael Couri (drums, formerly of Minsk, currently of Cedars of Lebanon), Lake of Violet was born from a series of free jams that were fleshed out over time with the addition of Jacob Essak (bass, from Sun Splitter) and Neil Jendon (guitar, vocals, synth, from Kwaidan, Catherine).
The songs on Plumb Lines are hypnotic and meditative, with huge atmosphere as a major focus for the album as a whole. Although the works evolved from free jams into more focused, composed pieces, they still breathe deeply and maintain a droning openness.
The Startling Testimony of Plumb Lines was tracked by Greg Norman and Neil Jendon, and mixed by Greg Norman. A release date is expected sometime in August or September.
Yellow Eyes – TBA full-length LP
Rounding out the year-end new releases we have New York City-based Yellow Eyes. Formed in 2010 by brothers Will and Sam Skarstad, Yellow Eyes have been making a considerable impact on the U.S. black metal scene with their uniquely entrancing form of black metal.
Through two full lengths and a handful of splits & EPs, the band has honed their distinctive style of unpredictable, narrative-driven songs that shift fluidly between melodic fanfare and unsettling dirge.
The new album, as of yet untitled, will also feature M. Rekevics on drums (of Fell Voices, Vorde, etc) and will be recorded by the band themselves in an isolated cabin in the woods of northern Connecticut. Yellow Eyes will also employ the talents of Alex DeMaria on bass (of New York black metal band Anicon) to flesh out their live lineup. The LP is currently scheduled for release in early fall.
Noisey thinks the Fórn record rips, I would tend to agree.
