2013/06/02 NEWSLETTER

Just sent out a massive newsletter, here it is!

My friends,
It’s been a wild month here at Gilead HQ. I’ve been doing a ton of printing and stocking up on supplies in preparation for arrival of the new releases. I want to make sure I get those records on the way to your doorstep as soon as they get here.
On top of that, there have been more than a few items added to the distro portion of the Gilead online store. The inventory shelf is seriously over flowing with awesome records.

There are also a couple status updates for the new Fell Voices and Ash Borer records. And tons of reviews that have come in for those and the new Lychgate album. And TWO new release announcements. This year is off to an amazing start, and I’m staying in high gear all the way through 2013. Down to business!

VII. FAN SUBMITTED PHOTOS OF GILEAD GOODIES (full update after the break)

Those that have been following Gilead Media for a few years will remember the 15th label release, the debut album from Indricothere. This was a solo album from Colin Marston (Behold… the Arctopus, Dysrhythmia, Gorguts, and later Krallice) comprised of extremely technical, instrumental death metal. The album sold out relatively quickly, which ruled. I wasn’t sure how it would go over with people, but I loved the CD release (from Sacrosanct Opuscule) so much that I ultimately wasn’t concerned with about how it would sell. Well, a few short months ago I received an email from Mr. Marston, simply stating he had nearly completed work on a new Indricothere record. I wasn’t even aware he was working on a new album for this project, and immediately agreed to release it. A follow up to the first Indricothere record was something I had been hoping for since the release of the first. I’m very pleased to announce a summer release for the vinyl edition of this new album, aptly titled II.

As if that news wasn’t good enough, you can stream and download the entire record from the Indricothere bandcamp page NOW. No messing around. The album went up for sale the same day I got the master files, and we’re busting out the vinyl soon. Just throwing the record out there, wrap your head around it and keep your eyes peeled for vinyl updates: http://indricothere.bandcamp.com/album/ii

For a week in May, Northless returned to Milwaukee’s own Howl Street Recordings to record their new album, World Keeps Sinking. I’ve heard the rough mixes for the album, and even during this preliminary phase the record blew away all of my expectations. And those expectations were considerable.

Gilead Media will be co-releasing this follow up to Clandestine Abuse with Halo Of Flies records. I have immense respect for Cory and the work he does, and it’s a great feeling to work with a Wisconsin label to release a record by this incredible Wisconsin band. There will be a lot of hometown pride in our work releasing this album, rest assured. We’re aiming for an August release to coincide with a record release show, details forthcoming. Paul Jeffrey will once again handle the layout and design, and the album will be mastered by Carl Saff. More updates will be available soon.

Vinyl. Obviously most of us prefer the format, but manufacturing is often frustrating and filled with problems. To top it off, plants all over the nation are running behind on production. Here’s where things are at with Bloodlands, Regnum Saturni, and Lychgate.

Fell Voices – Regnum Saturni. A&C sides of the vinyl are good to go. Test pressings sounded great and everything’s been approved on those. The B side had a couple weirdnesses to it that required revisiting. Cleaning the plates didn’t solve the issue so we have to re-cut the lacquer for side B. I’m going to ask the plant to move forward pressing disc 2 (c/blank) so I can screen print those while Antithetic Records and I wait for the A/B disc to finish up. Trying to make the best out of a delay. A new projected date of completion will be announced soon. I’m hoping the plant will be able to rush the new test pressings for side B to avoid big delays.

Aside from that, the band also requested we adjust the shirt design slightly. The front of the shirt will remain the same, but the quote on the back will be simplified and reduced to a single line. The new mockup is below, can’t wait to print these.

I love that passage, and the poem it’s from is incredibly powerful. Reading it aloud is a special experience, and I’m happy it’s part of the layout on Regnum Saturni.

Ash Borer – Bloodlands. Vinyl was supposed to be done on the 17th, but was not completed until last week. They’ve been delivered to the printer for assembly with jackets and should be on the way to Gilead & Psychic Violence early this coming week. The best part? The plant only pressed 90 of the 200 copies of the GREY vinyl. They’ll be completing them, but Gilead’s grey stock and the remainder of PV’s grey stock will arrive later in the month of June. I’m working on getting them here as soon as possible since the fault lies 100% with the pressing plant.

Lychgate – Lychgate. No delays or issues here yet. Everything seems to be moving forward as planned. Hoping the pressing plant kicks it out in their quoted turnaround time.

The good news is there have been a multitude of reviews for these three new releases. I’m very grateful so many writers have felt the impact of these records and taken the time to write about them. Links to all of the reviews can be found on the discography listing for each record.

My buddy Scott (Gilead screen printing helper) suggested I screen print artwork on some LP mailers a couple months ago. I had seen this before, and always loved it and wanted to do it myself, but just couldn’t find the time. Well, I got all excited about it one day last week so I just went ahead and printed them. These were all hand printed by me using non-toxic acrylic ink. All pending pre-orders will ship in these custom mailers. I hope you guys enjoy receiving these as much as I enjoyed printing them. Stoked on how they turned out.

Last week I put out a call on my facebook page last week for folks to take quick photos of their Gilead Media stickers, buttons, slipmats, etc and post them, tagging my social media accounts. I’ve sent out a few hundred buttons and about 1500 stickers, so it’s cool to see where they’ve ended up over this time. If you’re on facebook, instagram, or twitter, I’d love to see what you’ve done with your Gilead Media free goodies. See this email’s signature for links to those social media accounts. Alternatively, if you’re not into this social media business, feel free to email me a photo.

You can also check out the label pages on facebook, instagram, tumblr, etc to view fan photos already submitted.

That’s all for this go around. This definitely turned into much more of an update than I expected! But it has indeed been a while since the last update, and much has happened! Hope you found something exciting this time around. I’m going to finally grab some sleep before we continue work installing our new patio on Sunday. It’s going to be a long day lifting stones. Until next time, folks.
